Research
The Cementitious & Bituminous Materials group has a diverse background and research interests. Specific areas of research emphasis include:
- Behavior and Design of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete and Masonry Structures
- Computational geomechanics, microstructure characterization of materials, transport in porous media
- Highway materials: mechanical properties of asphalt binders and mixtures, pavement performance modeling, advanced characterization of materials
- Sustainability of Cementitious Materials: Pervious concrete, carbon absorption in concrete, environmental management of concrete, use of recycled materials, ceramic cements
Facilities
The Washington Center for Asphalt Technology (WCAT) is accredited by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)under the Materials Reference Laboratory (MRL) Program.
